Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 large egg

½ cup buttermilk (or milk with 1/2 tbsp lemon juice)

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)

For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Sprinkles (optional for decoration)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with cooking spray.

Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg until combined.

Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and almond extract until fully combined.

Combine the mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix; it’s okay if there are some lumps.

Pipe the batter: Transfer the donut batter to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a donut comes out clean.

Cool: Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more powdered sugar or milk if needed.

Glaze the donuts: Once the donuts are fully cooled, dip the tops into the glaze and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles if desired.

Serve & enjoy: Let the glaze set for a few minutes, then serve your delicious baked donuts fresh and enjoy!
