Lasagna, a beloved dish originating from Italy, has a rich history that spans centuries. Its roots can be traced back to Ancient Greece, where a dish called "laganon" was created, consisting of layers of pasta and sauce. However, it was the Italians who truly embraced and evolved this dish, particularly in the region of Emilia-Romagna, where the culinary magic of lasagna really began to flourish. Traditionally made with layers of pasta, meat, cheese, and sauce, lasagna is more than just a meal; it is a symbol of Italian hospitality and family gatherings, often served during special occasions and holidays.

Ingredients

1 lb ground pork (or ground chicken)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped green onions

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon ginger, grated

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup Sriracha sauce (adjust for spice preference)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easier cleanup.

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork (or chicken), breadcrumbs, green onions, minced garlic, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything gently with your hands or a spoon until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

Form the Meatballs: Using your hands, scoop about 1.5 tablespoons of the meat mixture and roll it into a ball. Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them to allow for even cooking.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and have a nice golden brown color on the outside.

Prepare the Honey Sriracha Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce by combining honey, Sriracha sauce, and rice vinegar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the mixture is well combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes. Adjust the Sriracha to taste for more or less heat.

Coat the Meatballs: Once the meatballs are finished baking, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm Honey Sriracha sauce over the meatballs and gently toss until they are thoroughly coated.

Garnish and Serve: Transfer the glazed meatballs to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh cilantro and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve with toothpicks for easy eating, or alongside rice and vegetables for a complete meal.
