Ingredients

12 large pasta shells

1 pound ground beef

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups marinara sauce

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Cook the Shells: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta shells according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Mix Filling Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture with ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.

Stuff the Shells: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fill each cooked pasta shell with the beef and cheese mixture.

Assemble in Baking Dish: Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly over the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange the stuffed shells in a single layer on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the shells, ensuring they are well covered.

Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Let the shells cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
