Ingredients

For the ribs:

2 racks of baby back ribs (about 4 pounds total)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

For the sticky sweet BBQ sauce:

1 cup ketchup

½ cup brown sugar

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

¼ cup honey

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon molasses

1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional, for an added smoky flavor)

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). This low and slow cooking method will make your ribs tender and flavorful.

Prepare the Ribs: Start by removing the silver skin from the back of the ribs. This membrane can make the ribs tough. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels, then season both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.

Make the BBQ Sauce: In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, molasses, liquid smoke (if using), black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Set aside.

Bake the Ribs: Place the seasoned ribs bone side down on a large baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Cover the ribs with another piece of foil, sealing the edges to create a steam pocket. Bake in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours.

Glaze the Ribs: After the ribs have cooked, remove them from the oven and carefully pull off the top layer of foil. Brush a generous amount of the BBQ sauce onto the ribs, reserving some for later.

Broil for a Caramelized Finish: Switch your oven setting to broil. Place the ribs under the broiler for 5-7 minutes, keeping a close eye to ensure they don’t burn. This step will caramelize the sauce and give the ribs a lovely sticky finish.

Serve: Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with the remaining BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.
