Ingredients

14 oz (400g) firm tofu, drained and pressed

1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)

1 cup unsweetened plant-based milk (e.g., almond or soy)

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

⅔ cup buffalo sauce (store-bought or homemade)

2 tablespoons olive oil (for spraying)

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Start by draining and pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the block of tofu in a clean kitchen towel, place a heavy object on top (like a cast-iron skillet), and let it press for about 30 minutes.

Cut the Tofu: After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangular pieces, depending on your preference for shape and dipping.

Set Up Breading Stations: In three separate bowls, set up your breading stations:

        - Bowl 1: Combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

          - Bowl 2: Pour in the plant-based milk.

            - Bowl 3: Place the panko breadcrumbs.

Bread the Tofu: Dip each tofu piece first into the flour mixture, coating it evenly. Next, dip it into the plant-based milk, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the tofu in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the crumbs adhere well. Repeat until all pieces are coated.

Air Fry the Tofu: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the breaded tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overlapping. Spray lightly with olive oil to help crisp them up.

Cooking Time: Air fry the tofu for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.

Coat with Buffalo Sauce: Once the tofu is air-fried and crispy, transfer it to a large bowl. Pour the buffalo sauce over the tofu and toss gently to coat.

Final Crisp (Optional): For an extra crispy texture, return the sauced tofu back to the air fryer for an additional 3-5 minutes.

Serve: Remove the tofu and serve immediately with celery sticks and your favorite dipping sauce (such as vegan ranch). Enjoy your spicy air-fried buffalo tofu!
