Ingredients

2 cups water

2 cups milk (any type: whole, almond, oat)

2 tablespoons loose black tea or 4 black tea bags

4 whole cloves

4 green cardamom pods

1 cinnamon stick

1-2 slices fresh ginger (adjust based on preference)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust for sweetness)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of black pepper (optional, for added warmth)

Extra ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Boil the Spices: In a medium saucepan, combine the water, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and fresh ginger. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for about 5-7 minutes to let the spices infuse their flavors.

Add Tea: Once the spices are fragrant and the water has reduced slightly, add the loose black tea or the black tea bags. Let this steep for an additional 5 minutes.

Incorporate Milk: After steeping the tea, reduce the heat to low and stir in your choice of milk. Warm it gently (do not boil) until it’s heated through – about 3-5 minutes.

Sweeten and Flavor: Stir in the honey or maple syrup for sweetness and the vanilla extract for a delightful finish. If using, add a pinch of ground black pepper for a subtle kick.

Strain and Serve: Remove from heat and strain the chai mixture into mugs using a fine mesh sieve to catch the spices and tea leaves.

Garnish: If desired, sprinkle with a little ground cinnamon on top for visual appeal and extra flavor.

Enjoy: Savor your homemade Spiced Chai Latte while it's hot, or let it cool to enjoy over ice.
