Ingredients

2 cups water

2 tablespoons black tea leaves (or 2 black tea bags)

1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy such as almond, oat, or coconut)

1/4 cup evaporated milk (optional for creaminess)

2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

1 stick of cinnamon

4-5 whole cloves

4-5 green cardamom pods (slightly crushed)

1/2-inch piece of fresh ginger (sliced thin or grated)

1/4 teaspoon black peppercorns (optional for a bit of spice)

A pinch of nutmeg (for serving)

Instructions

Boil the Water: In a medium saucepan, bring the two cups of water to a boil.

Add Spices: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add the cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, ginger, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes for the flavors to meld.

Add Black Tea: Stir in the black tea leaves (or tea bags) and let it steep for around 5 minutes, allowing the tea to become robust and flavorful.

Strain the Mixture: After steeping, remove from heat and strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve into a separate pot or large bowl, discarding the spices and tea leaves.

Combine with Milk: Return the strained tea to the stove over low heat and stir in the milk and evaporated milk (if using). Heat until warm, but do not bring to a boil.

Sweeten: Add honey or maple syrup to the latte according to your taste preference, stirring until fully dissolved.

Serve: Pour the Spiced Chai Latte into your favorite mugs, and sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg on top for a fragrant finish.

Enjoy: Sip slowly and savor the comforting flavors of your homemade Spiced Chai Latte.
