Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 cups marinara sauce

1 tsp dried basil

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.

Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onion becomes translucent (about 3-5 minutes).

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, marinara sauce, dried basil, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce, ensuring all pasta is well-coated.

In another bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with salt and pepper until smooth.

Grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish. Spread half of the spaghetti mixture along the bottom of the dish, followed by dollops of the ricotta cheese mixture, then half of the mozzarella cheese.

Layer the remaining spaghetti mixture over the cheese, topping it with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Cover the casserole with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Once finished, remove from oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
