Ingredients

For the Base:

1 box of yellow cake mix

1 large egg

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Filling:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 ½ cups powdered sugar

½ cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

½ tsp sea salt

For Topping:

Extra salted caramel sauce (for drizzling)

Flaky sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

Prepare the Base:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

      Mix the Base:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Stir until well combined and forms a thick dough. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

          Bake the Base:

Bake the base in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until it is set but not browned. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.

              Prepare the Filling:

In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and salted caramel sauce. Beat until well combined. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and mix until smooth and creamy.

                  Combine and Bake:

Pour the filling over the slightly cooled cake base, spreading it evenly. Bake for an additional 30-35 minutes. The center should be slightly jiggly but will firm up as it cools.

                      Cool and Assemble:

Once baked, remove the gooey butter bars from the oven and allow them to cool down in the pan. Once cool, drizzle with extra salted caramel sauce and sprinkle with flaky sea salt for an elegant touch.

                          Serve:

Cut into squares and serve! These bars can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week or enjoyed at room temperature.
