Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup ready-made salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Flaky sea salt, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

Cream the butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Mix dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Spread the batter: Pour 2/3 of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Add caramel sauce: Gently drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the batter, spreading it evenly. Use a spatula or knife to swirl it slightly into the batter, but don’t mix completely.

Top with remaining batter: Take the remaining batter and dollop it over the caramel layer, then spread it out as best as you can. It doesn’t have to be perfect—some caramel will peek through.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and garnish: Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes. Once cooled, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top for that delightful sweet-salty contrast.

Slice and serve: Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your blissful salted caramel butter bars!
