Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Batter:

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the 1 cup of butter. Remove from heat, and stir in the sugar until fully combined.

        - Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

            Bake the Brownies:

              - Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until just set but not completely firm.

                Prepare the Salted Caramel:

                  - In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the 1 cup of granulated sugar. Do not stir; instead, gently swirl the pan as the sugar melts into a golden-brown caramel.

                    - Once the sugar is fully melted, carefully add the cubed butter. The mixture will bubble vigorously; stir until the butter is melted.

                      - Gradually add the heavy cream, stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of sea salt. Allow it to cool slightly.

                        Assemble the Brownies:

                          - Pour the salted caramel over the partially baked brownies, spreading it evenly.

                            - Dollop the remaining brownie batter over the caramel and use a knife to swirl it gently. If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

                              Final Bake:

                                - Return the brownies to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

                                  Cool and Serve:

                                    - Once baked, allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Once cool, sprinkle with additional sea salt before cutting into squares.
