Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup milk

1 egg

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the Gravy:

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Salisbury Steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the steaks tender.

Form the Patties: Shape the beef mixture into four oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Cook the Patties: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux.

Add Liquids: Gradually pour in the beef broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Stir in soy sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and allow the gravy to thicken.

Combine and Simmer: Once the gravy has thickened, return the cooked Salisbury steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes to heat the steaks through and meld the flavors.

Serve: Plate the Salisbury steaks, ladle extra gravy on top, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.
