Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1 cup beef broth

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined but do not overwork the meat.

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties, approximately ½ inch thick.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the Salisbury steak patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 3 minutes, or until they are tender and browned.

Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir, cooking for 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste.

Gradually whisk in the beef broth, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard, ensuring there are no lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.

Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over them. Let them simmer in the sauce for 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley, alongside mashed potatoes or your favorite vegetable sides.
