Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups broccoli florets

2 cups cooked jasmine or basmati rice

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

2 teaspoons cornstarch

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of ginger, minced

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 medium onion, sliced

Salt and pepper, to taste

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Green onions, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for about 15 minutes.

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch. Set it aside.

Blanch the Broccoli: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for about 2 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and immediately plunge them into an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside.

Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Stir-fry Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add minced garlic, minced ginger, and onion. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Then, add the blanched broccoli and cook for another 2 minutes.

Combine: Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir-fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is cooked through and coated with the sauce.

Finish and Serve: Drizzle with sesame oil, toss well, and taste for seasoning. Adjust with more salt or soy sauce if needed. Serve the stir-fry over warm cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
