Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup hot fudge sauce (store-bought or homemade)

½ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

1 cup vanilla ice cream

Whipped cream (for serving)

Maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until thoroughly blended.

Add Wet Ingredients: Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Mix on medium speed until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Prepare the Fudge Layer: Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Pour the hot fudge sauce over the batter, and sprinkle chopped nuts over the fudge if using. Carefully pour in the remaining batter over the fudge layer.

Bake the Cake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean (it’s okay if there are a few crumbs, but it shouldn’t be wet).

Cool Down: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, using a knife, carefully loosen the edges and let it cool for another 10 minutes on a wire rack.

Serve: Once the cake is slightly warm or at room temperature, cut into squares and serve topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry on top.

Enjoy: Drizzle with extra hot fudge sauce if desired, and enjoy your delicious homemade Old-Fashioned Hot Fudge Sundae Cake!
