Ingredients

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened

4 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup milk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Instructions

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the softened butter over low heat. Be careful not to let it brown.

Once melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the cocoa powder until it's fully combined and smooth.

Gradually whisk in the milk, mixing thoroughly until the cocoa and butter are completely incorporated.

Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan. Mix using a hand mixer or a whisk until the icing is smooth and glossy. If the icing is too thick, you can add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.

Let the icing cool for about 10-15 minutes, until it thickens slightly but is still pourable. Pour or spread the icing over cooled cakes, cupcakes, or brownies for a delicious old-fashioned finish.

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 25 minutes | Servings: Makes enough for 1 large cake or 24 cupcakes
