Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup whole milk

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Pan: Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. Lightly grease the parchment with cooking spray or butter.

Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, whole milk, and salt. Stir until the mixture is well-blended.

Cook the Mixture: Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Once it starts to boil, allow it to boil without stirring for about 4-5 minutes or until it reaches the soft-ball stage (approximately 234°F or 112°C on a candy thermometer).

Add Butter & Chocolate: Remove the saucepan from heat, then stir in the unsalted butter, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract. Mix until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.

Incorporate Nuts (Optional): If you'd like to use nuts, fold them into the chocolate mixture now.

Pour into the Pan: Quickly pour the fudge into the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer with a spatula.

Cool the Fudge: Allow the fudge to cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours, or until it's firm.

Cut and Serve: Once the fudge is cooled and set, use the parchment paper to lift it out of the pan. Cut it into squares and serve.
