Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed (110°F or 43°C)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)

1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)

2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture and whisk well. Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture.

Knead the Dough: Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, and mix until a soft dough forms. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Roll Out the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle, approximately 16x12 inches.

Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the cinnamon filling over the rectangle, leaving a small border along the edges.

Roll Up: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal, and cut the log into 12 equal pieces.

Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.

Preheat the Oven: While rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Rolls: Once risen, bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Make the Frosting: In a bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Frost and Serve: Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately and enjoy the warm, gooey treat!
