Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup whole milk

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)

1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons whole milk (for glaze)

Oil for frying

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well blended.

Mix the Dough: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix. Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Chill the Dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes. Chilling will help the donuts hold their shape when frying.

Prepare for Frying: In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat about 2-3 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a deep-frying thermometer to check the temperature and maintain it throughout frying.

Shape the Donuts: Scoop about 1/4 cup of batter and use your hands to shape it into a patty (about 1 inch thick). You can also use a donut cutter if you have one. Repeat until all the batter is shaped.

Fry the Donuts: Carefully drop a few shaped fritters into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add additional milk one teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.

Glaze the Donuts: Once the fritters are slightly cooled, dip the tops vào the glaze and allow it to set for a few minutes.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the apple fritter donuts warm, and enjoy with a dusting of powdered sugar if desired!
