Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup diced cooked ham

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk and half of the melted butter (1/4 cup) until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the buttermilk mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix—the batter should be lumpy.

Add to Baking Dish: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Add Butter: Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top of the batter. Sprinkle chopped chives if desired.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve and Enjoy: Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes before cutting them into squares. Serve warm, and enjoy the buttery, cheesy goodness!
