Instructions

Prepare the Burger Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, finely chopped pineapple, red onion, minced garlic, soy sauce, cilantro, ground ginger, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Brush the grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.

Grill the Patties: Place the turkey patties on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are fully cooked and have an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on each patty to melt.

Grill the Pineapple (Optional): If using extra pineapple slices, grill them alongside the patties for 2-3 minutes on each side until they have nice grill marks and are caramelized.

Toast the Buns: Open the whole wheat burger buns and place them cut-side down on the grill for 1-2 minutes, or until they are toasted to your liking.

Assemble the Burgers: To assemble, start with the bottom bun, add a lettuce leaf, then place the turkey patty with melted mozzarella. Top with a grilled pineapple slice (if using), add a slice of tomato, and avocado if desired. Finish with the top bun.

Serve: Serve the grilled pineapple turkey burgers immediately, perhaps with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
