Ingredients

1 large loaf of ciabatta bread (or baguette)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a kick)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Herb Butter: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, basil, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), Parmesan cheese, and lemon zest. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.

Slice the Bread: Slice the ciabatta or baguette in half lengthwise. If you prefer smaller pieces, you can also cut the loaf into smaller segments without cutting all the way through.

Spread the Mixture: Evenly spread the herb butter mixture onto the cut side of each piece of bread. Ensure you get it into all the nooks and crannies for maximum flavor.

Wrap for Baking: Place the bread halves on a baking sheet. If you cut them into segments, arrange them closely together. Wrap the baking sheet tightly in aluminum foil to lock in moisture.

Bake: Bake the wrapped bread in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes. This step allows the butter to melt and the flavors to meld.

Crisp It Up: After 15 minutes, carefully unwrap the foil and return the bread to the oven for an additional 5-7 minutes. This will make the top of the bread golden and crispy.

Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then slice into pieces if not already done. Serve warm and enjoy the aroma and flavor of your homemade garlic bread!
