Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter (226g)

8 oz (225g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

1 cup granulated sugar (200g)

1 cup packed brown sugar (220g)

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional, for added texture)

½ cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9-inch (23x23 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

Melt Chocolate and Butter: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate, stirring frequently until smooth and combined. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mix Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Add in the melted chocolate-butter mixture and stir until well combined.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Sift together the all-purpose flour and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually fold the dry mixture into the chocolate mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Mix-ins: If using, gently fold in the chocolate chips or chunks and the chopped nuts for added texture.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spread it evenly, and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center still looks slightly underbaked. A toothpick should come out with moist crumbs, not completely clean.

Cool and Cut: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Use the parchment overhang to lift it out, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, cut into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve your fudgy chocolate squares warm or at room temperature. They’re perfect with a scoop of ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar on top!
