Ingredients

2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy. This means the yeast is active and ready to use.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 ½ cups of flour and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry: Once the yeast mixture is frothy, pour it into the flour along with the olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Sprinkle a little flour onto a clean surface. Turn the dough out onto the surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, adding more flour as necessary until the dough is smooth and elastic. It should be slightly tacky but not sticky.

Let it Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it once to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Prepare the Dough for Pizza Making: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Divide it into 2-3 equal portions, depending on how thick you like your crust. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes under a towel.

Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion to your desired thickness, sprinkling cornmeal onto the baking sheet or pizza stone to prevent sticking.

Add Toppings & Bake: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Add your favorite sauces, cheeses, and toppings. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.

Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and enjoy your delicious homemade pizza!
