Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks:

1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

2 cups mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini works well)

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon flour

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

      - Shape the mixture into four oval patties, about 1 inch thick.

        Cook the Hamburger Steaks:

          - Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a splash of oil if needed, then place the hamburger patties in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until a nice brown crust forms and they are cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F).

            - Once cooked, transfer the patties to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.

              Make the Mushroom Gravy:

                - In the same skillet, add butter and olive oil. Once melted, toss in the sliced mushrooms and sauté until they release their moisture and begin to brown, about 5-6 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over mushrooms and stir for about 1-2 minutes to cook off the raw flour taste.

                  - Gradually whisk in the beef broth and garlic powder, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to whisk until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

                    Combine and Serve:

                      - Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet with the mushroom gravy, spooning the gravy over the patties to soak in the flavors. Let them simmer together for about 2 minutes.

                        - Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

                          Serving Suggestions:

                            - Serve the hamburger steaks topped with mushroom gravy over a bed of mashed potatoes or with a side of steamed vegetables.
