Easy Creamy Tomato Basil Pasta

12 oz (340g) pasta of your choice (penne, fusilli, or spaghetti)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.

    Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Then, add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.

      Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in the dried oregano. Simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
