Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

2 cups mini marshmallows

For the Topping:

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup unsalted butter

2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Melt Butter: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly before adding the sugars.

Mix Sugars and Eggs: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

Fold in Chocolates and Nuts: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped pecans (if using).

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Add Marshmallows: Take the cake out of the oven, and sprinkle the mini marshmallows over the top. Return it to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to let the marshmallows puff.

Prepare the Topping: While the cake cools, prepare the topping. In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of cocoa powder and 1/2 cup of butter over low heat until melted. Remove from the heat and stir in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Frost the Cake: Once the marshmallows have cooled slightly, pour the chocolate topping over the cake and spread it evenly. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top while the frosting is still warm.

Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
