Ingredients

2 large yellow onions, sliced into ½-inch thick rings

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a kick)

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking spray (or olive oil spray)

Instructions

Soak the Onions: In a bowl, soak the sliced onion rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to help tenderize them and add flavor.

Prepare the Breading Station: In one shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. In another shallow dish, place the seasoned breadcrumbs.

Bread the Onion Rings: Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each ring in the flour mixture, making sure it’s coated well. Shake off any excess flour, then dip the ring back into the buttermilk, and finally coat it with the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

Arrange and Spray: Arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It's best not to overcrowd; work in batches if necessary. Lightly spray the rings with cooking spray for an extra crispy texture.

Air Fry: Cook the onion rings in the air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through and spraying again with oil if desired, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Once done, remove the onion rings from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch, spicy mayo, or ketchup.
