8 oz fettuccine or spaghetti

2 tbsp olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

Extra basil leaves and Parmesan for garnish

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the fettuccine (or spaghetti) according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.

    Sauté the Garlic: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute or until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

      Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine with the garlic. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

        Make it Creamy: Reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth. Add the red pepper flakes if using, along with salt and pepper to taste.

          Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat the noodles in the creamy sauce. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add some reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.

            Add Fresh Basil: Stir in the chopped fresh basil until just wilted. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
