Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Roll Base:

2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough

1/4 cup melted butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

For the Apple Pie Filling:

4 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie pan and set it aside.

    Prepare the Cinnamon Roll Base:

      - Open the cinnamon roll dough and remove the icing packets; set them aside for later.

        - With each piece of dough, roll it out slightly and then cut it into quarters.

          - In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon together until well combined.

            - Dip each piece of dough in the butter mixture, ensuring they are fully coated, then place them in the prepared pie pan, layering them to form a crust on the bottom and sides.

              Make the Apple Filling:

                - In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Toss until all the apple slices are coated evenly.

                  - Pour the apple mixture into the cinnamon roll crust, spreading it out evenly. If using, sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans on top of the apple filling.

                    Bake the Pie:

                      - Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the cinnamon roll crust is golden brown.

                        - Check the pie around the 20-minute mark; if the edges are browning too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil.

                          Prepare the Glaze:

                            - While the pie is baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Set aside.

                              Finishing Touches:

                                - Once the pie is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10-15 minutes.

                                  - Drizzle the prepared glaze over the warm cinnamon roll apple pie. Optional: Sprinkle with a few additional cinnamon and nutmeg for extra flavor.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Slice and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side if desired, or enjoy it as is.
