Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) gently with a spatula until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
