Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2/3 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup caramel bits

1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

Make the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Prepare Caramel Layer: In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the caramel bits and heavy cream. Stir until the caramel is completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat.

Layer the Caramel: Pour half of the cookie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it into an even layer. Carefully drizzle half of the melted caramel over the batter. Use a spatula to swirl the caramel into the batter slightly.

Add Remaining Batter: Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie batter over the caramel layer, gently spreading it to cover as best as you can. It doesn’t have to be perfect!

Drizzle More Caramel: Pour the remaining caramel on top of the cookie batter and gently swirl it again with a knife for an enticing marbled effect.

Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Be careful not to overbake!

Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before lifting them out with the parchment paper. Slice into squares, and serve warm or at room temperature.
