Ingredients

1 package (1 sheet) of refrigerated puff pastry (thawed)

1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg (beaten with a splash of water for egg wash)

Optional: chocolate chips or almond paste for filling

Instructions

Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases. Cut the sheet into triangles (approximately 4 inches wide at the base and 8 inches long).

Make the Filling: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. This buttery mixture will serve as both a glaze and a flavor enhancer for the croissants.

Fill and Roll: If using, place a few chocolate chips or a spoonful of almond paste at the base of each triangle. Starting from the base, roll the triangle up tightly towards the tip to form a croissant shape. Tuck the tip underneath the croissant to prevent it from unraveling during baking.

Egg Wash: Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops lightly with the beaten egg wash to give them a beautiful golden color when baked.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and puffed. Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent over-browning.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the tray from the oven and let the croissants cool for about 5 minutes. Serve warm, optionally drizzled with a little more melted butter or sprinkled with powdered sugar for an extra touch of indulgence.

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 8 croissants
