Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat for added texture)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp dried thyme

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1 cup fig jam (store-bought or homemade)

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

1/4 cup water

Olive oil for greasing

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet with olive oil.

Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, thyme, and smoked paprika. Mix gently until everything is well incorporated, but be careful not to overmix to ensure tender meatballs.

Form Meatballs: Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place them in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Prepare Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the fig jam, balsamic vinegar, and water. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until the jam is melted and the mixture is well combined. Remove from heat.

Bake Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the meatballs for 15-20 minutes or until they're browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C).

Glaze Meatballs: Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and drizzle the fig glaze evenly over the top. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the glaze to set and become sticky.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let the meatballs cool for a few minutes before serving. These meatballs are delightful as an appetizer or served over pasta, in a sub sandwich, or on a bed of sautéed greens.
