Ingredients

2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon granulated sugar (or substitute with coconut sugar for a healthier option)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Optional: pinch of sea salt for added flavor

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). This low temperature will help dehydrate the apples while keeping them crispy.

Prepare Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Use a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife to slice the apples into thin, even slices (about 1/8 inch thick). Ensure uniform size for even baking.

Toss with Lemon Juice: In a large mixing bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice. This will help prevent browning and add a subtle tang to the flavor.

Mix Cinnamon and Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and optional sea salt. Stir until well mixed.

Coat Apple Slices: Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the apple slices and gently toss until all slices are evenly coated.

Arrange on Baking Sheets: Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Lay the apple slices out in a single layer, making sure they do not overlap, to allow for even baking.

Bake: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven. Bake for about 1 hour and then flip the apple slices to ensure they cook evenly. Continue baking for an additional 1-2 hours, or until the apple chips are dry and crispy. Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent burning.

Cool Down: Once baked, remove the apple chips from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for about 10 minutes. They'll become crunchier as they cool.

Store: Store any leftover apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Enjoy as a healthy snack or topping for yogurt and salads!
