Ingredients

2 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Fuji)

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon sugar (optional, adjust based on sweetness of apples)

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife, slice the apples into very thin rounds (about 1/8 inch thick). Remove the seeds from the slices.

Add Lemon Juice: In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice. This helps prevent browning and enhances flavor.

Mix Cinnamon and Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, sugar (if using), and a pinch of salt. Mix well to combine.

Coat the Apple Slices: Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over the apple slices. Toss gently to ensure all slices are evenly coated.

Arrange on Baking Sheets: Lay the apple slices out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Make sure they are not overlapping for even baking.

Bake Low and Slow: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, flipping the apple slices halfway through, until they are dry and crisp.

Cool and Store: Once baked, remove the apple chips from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
