Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

3 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

For Serving (optional):

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a muffin tin by lightly greasing it or using muffin liners.

Prepare the Apple Filling: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated and set aside.

Make the Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is crumbly but holds together when pressed. If you're using nuts, fold them in now.

Assemble the Cups: Scoop a portion of the apple filling into each muffin cup (about two-thirds full). Top generously with the crumble mixture, pressing it lightly onto the apples to keep it in place.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Cool & Serve: Allow the baked cups to cool in the tin for about 10 minutes before carefully removing them. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
