My Fiancé Was Declared Dead Before Our Wedding, But I Saw Him Alive at Another Wedding

My Fiancé Was Declared Dead Before Our Wedding, But I Saw Him Alive at Another Wedding
← Previous Part (2) Reading Part 3 of 3

“He just…disappeared?” I asked, my voice hollow. “He contacted a friend, someone who specialized in…making people disappear. He provided a false death certificate, arranged the accident scene to look real. It was all meticulously planned, but terrible.”

She confessed that she’d helped him, believing it was the only way to save her son. "He swore he'd contact you once everything was settled, once he was safe. But...he got involved with Daniel's business, and things got complicated again. He couldn’t risk exposing himself.”

The pieces started to fall into place, forming a horrifying picture of deception and desperation. Adrian hadn’t been trying to protect me from grief; he’d been protecting himself from his own reckless choices. And Colleen had become complicit, sacrificing my happiness for her son’s selfish escape. My heart ached, not just for the loss of the Adrian I loved, but for the realization that he’d never been the man I thought he was.

Suddenly, I noticed a flash of gold on Colleen’s hand – a ring, identical to the one Adrian had given me, the ring I’d buried with him. Except…this one was new. And glittering.

Karma's Bloom

“That ring…” I whispered, pointing to the sparkling gold on Colleen’s finger. Her face flushed crimson. “It’s…a replacement,” she stammered. “Adrian gave it to me. For…for being a good mother.” The lie felt particularly cruel. I finally understood. This wasn’t about protecting me. It was about control. Adrian hadn’t just faked his death; he’d manipulated his mother into becoming an accomplice, and now, he was marrying into wealth, using a new identity to escape his past.

Just then, the wedding coordinator rushed up, her face pale. “Mrs. Parker! There’s…there’s a problem.” She explained that Daniel’s – Adrian’s – previous wife had just arrived, accompanied by a private investigator. She was contesting the marriage, claiming she hadn’t legally finalized their divorce. The investigator had uncovered Adrian’s true identity, along with the staged accident and the fraudulent insurance claim. The police were on their way.

As chaos erupted, I watched Adrian’s carefully constructed world crumble around him. Colleen, her face etched with despair, finally turned to him, her voice filled with fury. “You promised me this would be a new beginning! You promised me safety!” Adrian, stripped of his façade, looked utterly defeated. He’d traded love and honesty for a fabricated life, and now, he’d lost everything. The police arrived, and Adrian was taken into custody, facing charges of fraud and insurance deception.

As they led him away, his eyes met mine. There was no apology, no remorse – only a chilling emptiness. The wedding was, of course, cancelled. I left the Blackwood Estate, not with a bouquet, but with a heavy heart and a profound sense of liberation. I’d mourned a ghost, only to discover the monster hidden beneath the surface. But in the wreckage of his lies, I found a quiet strength, a resolve to rebuild my life, free from deception. And as I drove away, I noticed a single, perfect white rose blooming in the garden, a symbol of hope, and a reminder that even after the darkest storms, beauty can still emerge.
