Bride’s Parents Demand She Give Sister Half Her Savings Before Walking Down the Aisle

Bride’s Parents Demand She Give Sister Half Her Savings Before Walking Down the Aisle
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 2

“Owen, darling,” my mother said, attempting to regain control. “There’s just a small disagreement. Nothing to worry about.” Owen wasn't buying it. He stepped fully into the room, his gaze sweeping between me and my parents. “A disagreement involving a financial demand on your wedding day?” I nodded, bracing myself. “They want half my savings for Paige.” Owen’s jaw tightened. “That’s… unbelievable.” He turned to my parents. “You’re seriously doing this? On her wedding day?”

Dad sighed, running a hand through his hair. “It’s not that simple, Owen. Paige is struggling. She’s always struggled. And Jade has been… fortunate.” “Fortunate?” I scoffed. “I’ve worked my tail off for everything I have! And Paige has consistently made choices that leave her vulnerable.”

Then, a small, metallic glint caught my eye. On the vanity, almost hidden beneath a scattering of makeup brushes, was a folder. Marked simply: “Paige – Contingency.” I hadn’t seen it before. Curiosity overriding my anger, I reached for it. The file contained bank statements. Paige's bank statements. And they showed a pattern of regular, substantial deposits… from an untraceable offshore account.

The Unraveling Truth

I flipped through the documents, my hands trembling. The deposits started five years ago, shortly after I’d received a significant inheritance from my grandmother. The amounts correlated almost exactly with the ‘loans’ my parents claimed Paige needed. “What is this?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper. My mother’s face paled further. Dad attempted to snatch the folder, but Owen blocked him. “Let her see it,” Owen said, his voice firm. “What have you been hiding?”

“It’s… a trust fund,” my father stammered. “For Paige. We wanted to ensure she was taken care of.” “A trust fund funded by my inheritance, without my knowledge?” I challenged. “And concealed through an offshore account? That’s not ‘taking care of’ Paige, that’s manipulation.” My mother finally broke. “We were protecting her! She’s not like you, Jade. She can’t handle responsibility. She needs our help.” “You’re not protecting her, you’re enabling her,” Owen interjected. “And you’re doing it at Jade’s expense.”

The truth hit me like a tidal wave. This wasn’t about Paige needing stability. It was about control. My parents had always pitted us against each other, subtly favoring Paige, controlling the narrative, and using money as a weapon.

The wedding day ultimatum wasn't a spontaneous act; it was the culmination of years of manipulation. And the ‘family savings’ they threatened to reveal weren’t about money at all, but about a secret my grandmother had confided in me shortly before her death – a secret about my father’s struggling business and the source of his initial capital. A business Paige knew nothing about.

Karma’s Reward

I took a deep breath, a strange calm washing over me. “You know,” I said, looking directly at my parents, “I always wondered why you were so insistent on me being ‘responsible.’ Now I understand. It wasn’t about me; it was about keeping this whole charade afloat.” I turned to Owen, taking his hand. “Let’s do this.

Let’s get married.” I walked to the speakers and adjusted the microphone. “Ladies and gentlemen,” I announced, my voice clear and strong, carrying across the garden. “I apologize for the delay. There’s been a slight… revelation.”

I proceeded to calmly and methodically lay out the truth – the secret trust fund, the offshore account, the questionable origins of my father’s business. The guests were stunned. My parents stood speechless, their faces a mask of shame and fury. As I spoke, I noticed Paige standing at the edge of the garden, her eyes wide with shock. When I finished, a hush fell over the crowd.

Then, unexpectedly, Paige began to walk towards us. She stopped in front of her parents, her voice trembling but resolute. “I didn’t know,” she said. “I had no idea you were doing this.”

She turned to me, her eyes filled with remorse. “Jade, I’m so sorry. I’ve been so blind.” Then, she turned back to my parents. “I don’t want your money. I don’t want your control. I want to make my own way.”

My parents, defeated and exposed, simply stood there, their carefully constructed world collapsing around them. Owen squeezed my hand. “Ready?” he asked. I smiled, a genuine, joyful smile. “Ready.” As I walked down the aisle, not with my parents, but with the support of my fiancé and the newfound respect of everyone present, I realized that sometimes, the greatest gift isn’t a life free of challenges, but the courage to face them – and the karma that follows when truth prevails.
